My Journey

This is my journey. Many years ago, I started my search firm. I launched this business because it gave me what I wanted from work. I love the business of people – working with them, talking with them, and supporting them on a journey. I love the business of business. Knowing where a company is, where they want to go, and how I can be a part of supporting that process.

Over time, I wanted to be more effective at supporting people to have greater insights, make better decisions, and reframe the stories they tell themselves to realize their ambitions. I wanted to help companies leverage their people, develop their talent, gain competitive advantages by hiring the right people, and create an environment for them to succeed. I challenged myself to learn through advanced education, continually practicing my coaching craft, and evolving my search practice to contribute more strategically.

Throughout my career I have had the chance to learn from so many amazing people. One thing about a business that has people at its center is that every day offers a new story, a new insight, and a new revelation about the human spirit and experience. Yesterday, I launched the next evolution in my journey - my podcast, Beyond Neutral. My goal is to offer a wider audience the opportunity to learn from some of the amazing people I have had the chance to know over the many years of my business.

The name comes from a funny story that happened while traveling with my sisters in Ireland several years ago (tune in to learn more). The concept comes from a metaphor I use often in navigating my own life. I see life as a road we are on. Like all journeys, some parts are scenic and beautiful, and others are bumpy and curvy. I have certainly experienced hitting large potholes from time to time.

One key observation from both the work I have done professionally, overlayed with the challenges and triumphs of my personal life, is there are times when we all get stuck. Faced with a new situation or a desire to move forward, we are tasked with needing to think differently but can be weighed down by the habits and stories we have owned along the way. Learning to see things from an alternate perspective, changing the narrative, and applying new behaviors is usually necessary and almost always difficult.

Beyond Neutral is about what it takes to move from where you are to where you want to get to in any number of situations - career, family, leadership, life’s milestones. With the help of some great guests, we will hit on all of them at some point. I hope you will join me on this journey.

Launching this took some courage. As a bit of a perfectionist – I will admit the first few episodes leave me wanting for better comfort at being in the moment, better polish in my interview techniques, and just simply….better.  But here is the deal – I can’t get to where I want to be without starting from where I am.

So this is it – my life experience, my search practice, my coaching practice, and my secret childhood ambition to be a talk show host – all wrapped up into one. I hope you take away some bit of insight that helps you move forward.  If you want to be a guest or suggest a topic, I would love to hear from you!

Stay well and keep driving forward.
